Tesla has just launched what they’re calling the fastest car in the world, and with good reason. This baby has a blazingly fast acceleration of 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds

The Tesla Model S P100D, as the name suggests, has a 100kWh battery, the largest in any Model S, giving it a range  of about 315 miles, or 613 kilometres. According to Tesla, this mode is ““the longest range production electric vehicle by far.”

Of course, the company is quick to note that, while both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were both faster than the Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode, those were both limited edition vehicles costing millions of dollars, and are currently not in production. That still makes this fully-electric vehicles the third-fastest accelerating car ever produced. On top of that, while both the LaFerrari and 918 Spyder were two-seaters, Tesla’s car seats 5, and has much more luggage space.

But perhaps you’re looking for something a little bulkier, the larger battery is also now available in the new Model X P100D SUV. This by far, is the world’s fastest SUV, clocking 0 to 60mph in just 2.9 seconds, though the size addition compared to the Model S means it gives  542 km to a full charge.

But while these may not be million-dollar vehicles, they still don’t come cheap. The Model S P100D starts at US $134,500, with about 200 being produced every week, while the Model X P100D starts at US $135,500.
