A camera that is replete with features, one that pushes the limits on how much can be packed into a compact body
Sony introduces a new entrant to their mirrorless line of compact premium cameras--the a6300. Its title feature is the updated 4D Focus system, where the company claims the camera can lock focus on a subject in as little as 50 milliseconds.
At its core is a new-generation 24.2MP APS-C sized CMOS Exmor sensor that works in conjunction with their BIONZ X image processing engine which together aim to reduce noise along its wide sensitivity spanning ISO 100 to 51,200.
The camera is also armed with the largest number of autofocus points in any interchangeable lens camera with a total of 425 phase detection autofocus points (PDAF) distributed over the image capture area. These autofocus points track moving objects by clustering around them as they move across the field of view, enabling fast focus even with panning and tracking objects. Using these densely packed AF points, the camera can capture burst shots at up to 11 frames per second while managing continuous autofocus and exposure tracking.
On the video capture front, it can record in 4K (3840x2160) with a shooting time of up to 29 minutes. Videos are encoded using the XAVC S codec that can record at a bitrate of 100Mbps for 4K shooting and 50Mbps when recording at a standard Full HD (1920x1080) resolution.
The sensor features a wide dynamic range--in 14 stops of exposure--enabling a greater color gamut and brightness depth in images, along with increased latitude during post processing.
Based on a robust magnesium alloy construction, the a6300is also dust and moisture resistant. On the body are nine customizable buttons that can be assigned from a mix of 64 different functions, enabling the camera to be configured for individual shooting styles. The camera also integrates WiFi and NFC that, when used with their PlayMEmories Mobile application (available for Android and iOS,) convenient transfer of media to smartphones. Non-NFC smartphones aren’t excluded--the phone uses QR codes to connect with them.
The a6300 along with the SELP1650 kit lens (35mm equivalent focal range of 24-75mm) is priced at Rs.74,990 and will be available at all Sony Center, Alpha flagship stores and major electronic stores across India.
