Ericsson announced on Thursday that they will allow Reliance communications (Rcom) to use its existing Small Cell spectrum of Wi-Fi infrastructure and launch Wi-Fi services in the country. The spectrum will be shared with a Delhi-based ISP and Wi-Fi service provider, Ozone Networks.

Rcom will utilize the existing Ericsson/Ozone Wi-Fi infrastructure to enable Wi-Fi services for a seamless end-user experience using the carrier-grade Small Cell Service network.

Jean-Claude Geha, head of Managed Services at Ericsson said, “We are pleased to expand our partnership with RCom with this new managed services agreement.” He added, “Together with Ozone India, we are realising our vision of providing a neutral, shared Wi-Fi infrastructure.”

The venture will hand over management of services to Ericsson, who will provide assets like small cell technology, designs, plans and optimized network.

“Ericsson supports our customers’ targets of new revenues and subscribers throughout indoor venues and hot spots with the Small Cell as a Service model. Ericsson’s Small Cell as a Service supports all technologies, from MuLTEfire with the Ericsson Dot solution to Cisco’s Wi-Fi solution,” said Geha.

Rcom hopes to increase revenue and target new customers with the endeavour.

“This partnership will enable us to meet the ever-growing customer expectations in ultra-dense environments through data offload to a country-wide carrier-grade Wi-Fi network,” said Suresh Rangachar, president and chief commercial officer of Reliance Communications.
