Pokkén Tournament goes pro in the Pokémon Championship Series

Though still in early access the new brawler from Nintendo is looking to get ahead in the esports game with championship tournaments.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International have announced that the upcoming Pokkén Tournament game for Wii U will join the Pokémon Championship Series this spring.

This year, Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competitions are being hosted by Nintendo at select GameStop locations across the US on February 27, ahead of the March 18 launch of the official game. Winners from the regional tournaments will advance to the finals being held at the Nintendo New York store on March 17.

The two finalists of the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition will earn travel awards to attend the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships (July 1-3 in Columbus, Ohio). There, they will battle to advance to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships on August 19-21 in San Francisco.

Pokkén Tournament is a 3D arena brawler with a roster of Pokémon selected from all generations of the franchise.
