Panasonic has demonstrated a new transparent display at CES 2016, and it's quite something. As opposed to some of the others we've seen, like LG's rollable display, this one's a lot larger.

It's meant to be for your living room or, possibly, displays in stores. Panasonic's booth at CES had the display attached to the front of wooden shelves, letting you see the items behind it as well as displaying content when activated. There are micro LEDs embedded into the wood in the shelving, which transmit the picture to the glass panel. And while the display has a bit of a tint as opposed to being 100 percent transparent (which is still pretty amazing) it can display an incredibly bright and clear picture on top, completely obscuring everything behind it. The current model of the transparent display has 1080p resolution,  and the researchers behind it are hoping to further improve the transparency in future prototypes.

Imagine this in your home, letting you tap an unobtrusive piece of glass to pull up the days news, turn up the air conditioning, or even watch a movie on a second screen. Cheeck out the video below for more Panasonic Smart Home products, or jump to 1:25 for the transparent display.
