Micromax YU releases new Cyanogen-based smartphone, Yuphoria

The Micromax YU Yuphoria is the latest in a series of Cyanogen-OS smartphones from the company, and is a decently specced flagship at a throwaway price.

Yu, a smartphone sub-brand of Micromax, announced their second smartphone in New Delhi yesterday, the Yuphoria. The all metal phone is a slightly scaled down version of their hugely popular Yureka, with an even lower price.

Powered by Cyanogen OS 12 (a mod of Android Lollipop 5.0), the phone is a metal unibody piece, with centrally aligned rear camera, and a three button setup on the right side for the volume roockers, and the power button in the middle. Saturn rings are a new feature around the rear camera, one that Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma says will be a recurring feature in the Yuphoria. Interestingly the company has filed four separate technology patents during the designing of this device, and it has been designed and assembled completely in India. 

The Yuphoria packs a 5" 1280x720p HD IPS display, an 8MP f/2.2 rear camera annnd 5MP front shooter. The phone runs on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, with 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage, and is powered by a 2230mAh battery. The phone is 8.25mm thin and weighs 143g, despite the all metal body. The phone will be available in two colours; Buffed Steel with black, and Champagne Gold with white, and iss priced at Rs 6,999.

The Yuphoria will be sold exclusively through YU's e-commerce partner Amazon.in, and registrations are currently open. The sale will begin May 28. You can find the product linke here.
