Need to spring-clean your Xiaomi phone or backup the device before migrating to a new one? Here’s the app you need.
Mi has just released the English version of their PC suite, a desktop application that enables comprehensive control of your Xiaomi phone. Available only for Windows, this suite lets you access and manage various aspects of your Mi phone, including installed Apps, photos, videos, notes, music, messages and contacts.
Drilling down into each of these categories, you can use this program to uninstall and upgrade apps, upload and play music and video files, manage contacts and SMSes, and even create notes from within the app that can subsequently be accessed on the device.
Another feature is screencasting, where you can replicate your phone’s screen on your PC; useful when you want to display your phone’s content on a desktop or laptop monitor. As you use your phone, whatever is on the phone’s screen is mirrored on your PC monitor in near-real time. We did experience a very perceptible lag in rendering the phone’s screen in the desktop app, making it unusable for watching video, gaming, and other such dynamic content. But it works fine for viewing slideshows, presentations, web content and the like.
For more fine-grained control of the files on your phone, this app also includes a file manager that lets you browse and manage your phone’s internal (on-board) and external (microSD) file system. Additionally, you can backup and restore your phone--useful when you are moving between phones--and you can also flash your device from the app itself.
To download the application, you will need to sign in using your Mi account. While there are comparable apps that lend a similar level of control over your phone using your desktop (Airdroid, for example, which lets you access your phone and many of these features using your desktop browser), this PC Suite is useful if you need to do a heavy bit of spring cleaning in your phone. Given that it’s connected over USB, the entire process of accessing and managing the phone using this application is quicker. It’s the kind of app you may not need to use on a daily basis, but its something that is useful at those instances when you need to uninstall many apps, or get rid of tons of photos or videos that have accumulated on your device.
