Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has released its first color image taken by INSAT-3DR, an advanced meteorological satellite. The image was shared on ISRO’s Twitter page.
On September 8, ISRO launched the weather satellite launched into a Geostationary Transfer Orbit, 36,000km above Earth. The satellite weighs 2,211kg while the GSLV-F05 rocket is 49 metres tall. ISRO launched the satellite from its second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

Like its predecessor INSAT-3D, INSAT-3DR carries a Data Relay Transponder as well as a Search and Rescue Transponder. Thus, INSAT-3DR will provide service continuity to earlier meteorological missions of ISRO and further augment the capability to provide various meteorological as well as search and rescue services.
