Google is now planning to manufacture its own smartphone, which will compete directly with the iPhone. Reportedly, the company is in talks with mobile operators about releasing a Google-branded smartphone that will extend the company’s move into hardware respectively.

A report by The Telegraph points out that, the new device will be released by the end of the year, explains a senior source. The company will also reportedly take more control over design, manufacturing and software.

Additionally, a report by 9To5Mac states that Google wants to go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone. One of the main reasons why Google wishes to make its own smartphone is that it wants more control over the mobile operating system, the same way Apple has over iOS.

If the company has its own smartphone, it can decide when it wishes to roll out updates to users, as soon as it is ready. This way, the company could ensure consistency while providing users with Android updates.
