Looks like Google is exploring virtual reality on a much deeper level. The company introduced Daydream – a VR platform for Android N. Unlike the company’s cheap and effective Cardboard, only certain selected hardware will support Daydream.
Clay Bavor, Google's vice president of virtual reality explains, “Daydream addresses latency and other issues affecting playback on smartphones.” Eight hardware partners will make Daydream-compatible smartphones including Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Asus, and Alcatel.

The company will offer a standardised interface when it introduces VR apps in the Play Store. There will be a range of apps, including its own YouTube and Google Play Movies. Additionally, Google's VR platform includes partnerships with HBO, Ubisoft, the NBA and more. However, Daydream will only work on new smartphones, specifically with certain components like special sensors and screens. He added, "We’re in year one. Or year zero. Or whatever. Give it a few more years and a few more biggers and betters, and VR could be everywhere—and perfect—sooner than you think."
Google is developing Android N, keeping virtual reality in mind. During the I/O developers’ conference, Bavor also announced a virtual reality headset powered by a smooth, two-button controller with orientation sensors that help determine positioning in virtual environments. The entire VR ecosystem by Google aims to offer a fully optimised software platform for developers to build the ultimate mobile VR experiences for the audience.
