Earth Day 2016: Google Doodle celebrates with tribute to five major biomes!

Google with a trail of doodles celebrates Earth Day.

April 22 marks the Earth Day. It is an annual event cherished all over the world. It was first celebrated in 1970, the movement gave voice to an emerging consciousness, channelling human energy toward environmental issues. And now after 46 years with even more enthusiasm it is celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. 

This  Earth day, in it's own witty manner, Google Doodle tributes Earth by putting up delightful trail of doodles. The doodles highlight five major biomes of earth: the tundra, forest, grasslands, desert, and coral reefs.

The idea for a national day to focus on the environment came to Gaylord Nelson, the founder. Then to a US Senator from Wisconsin, after witnessing the disrupted 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.

Senator Nelson announced the idea for a “national teach-in on the environment” to the national media. And managed to gather 85 staff to promote the event across the land.

On April 22,1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive rallies. Thousands of colleges and universities organised protests against the deterioration of the environment. All of the activists shared the common value and hence joined the protest.

By the end of struggles and a year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation.
