BlackBerry offers premium apps for free

BlackBerry has reportedly announced that it is offering premium apps for free, in a bid to promote adoption of its BlackBerry 10 operating system.

Users of the OS will be allowed to download a premium application each day until 25 December.

The sinking smartphone manufacturer has been struggling to revive its market position lost to rivals like Apple, Google and Samsung.

According to News24, BlackBerry has been under pressure to expand the users on its BlackBerry 10 platform and an apps ecosystem has emerged as a vehicle to ensure user loyalty.

The struggling company recently announced it once popular messaging service BBM on third-party devices, which saw a record 10 million download on the first day of launch.

The report said that to access the free application, users need to tap the 25 Days of Gifts banner in BlackBerry World and select the app offered.

The first premium app offered is Angry Birds Season, the report added.
