The only thing that is old school in this bike is the black triangle shape that has been designed to resemble the first BMW bike ever made: the classic BMW R32 launched in 1923.

If there's ever a bike that could give the T.R.O.N. bike a run for its money, this would be it.

BMW has announced yet another concept vehicle of the future--this time an electric superbike powered by artificial intelligence: the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100. The manufacturers claim that it is so safe that it doesn't even require the rider to wear a helmet or any other protective gear, and that's saying a lot.

This is also the first bike that is completely self-balancing--they weren't kidding when they stated its rider would never need to even place their feet on the ground. The bike's self-balancing system will not only keep the bike upright while in motion but also when it is at a complete standstill. So theoretically, a rider would not even need to know how to balance. The bike will also have a "flexframe", a design innovation that enables the frame to actually bend and twist while the vehicle maneuvers; when negotiating a turn for example. This design approach has enabled the manufacturer to even eliminate the need for joints in the frame, a norm for virtually every current-day motorbike.

But the most intriguing feature of the bike is its "electronic safety cage" that will communicate with smart technology and sensors to avoid crashing. The vehicle will come with a technology called "Digital Companion", which alerts and helps riders in potentially dangerous situations, which works in tandem with a smart visor with a built-in Heads Up Display (HUD) that uses augmented reality to portray key environment and situational information to the rider.

The only thing that is old school in this bike is the black triangle shape that has been designed to resemble the first BMW bike ever made: the classic BMW R32 launched in 1923.

BMW hasn't announced an official time frame or any concrete plans to launch this bike anytime soon. Furthermore it is still a concept vehicle, so it is unclear which--if any--of these features will make it to the final cut. Even if the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 remains in the prototype phase for years to come, it still is a fantastic peek into what the future of riding could entail.
