All key announcements from Nvidia at CES 2017

At CES 2017, Nvidia underlined it vision in artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, gaming and automotive industry for the coming year. The GPU manufacturers definitely turned some heads when Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and the President of Audi America Scott Keogh jointly announced a collaboration to bring a consumer version of AI-powered cars by 2020.

GeForce Now

GeForce Now is a cloud-based service specifically designed for gamers. The innovative service allows users to play games directly from the cloud as opposed to spending time to download multiple gigabytes before gaming. The system is meant for PC gamers who want to play the latest games instantly. The service also allows gamers that have PCs with low-end specifications to play the latest games with amped up graphics. However, one important requirement is a fast and stable internet connection.

The service is similar to Valve's Steam or Electronic Art’s Origin, expect users will not have to download the game in order to play it. Interestingly, a users collection of games will automatically update to its latest version instantly, meaning that gamers using the digital distribution platform will never experience any downtime. Nvidia has priced GeForce Now at $25 (Approximately Rs 1,700) for 20 hours.

Nvidia Shield

The next innovative announcement by Nvidia was an AI-powered voice assistant for your home. Nvidia Shield can not only be used to stream media but also comes with Google Assistant for a voice command features. Previously, Google Assistant was only used in hardware developed by Google like the Pixel smartphone.

The company also announced Nvidia Spot to further enhance the capabilities of Shield. Spot is a microphone that can be fixed anywhere around a house to talk to Google Assistant via Shield. According to Huang, the microphone has echo cancellation and can pick up audio signals from about 20 feet away. Spot needs to be constantly connected to Shield through a WiFi connection.

Drive PX

The last piece of technology Nvidia unveiled was an AI AutoPilot system called Drive PX. According to Nvidia, the AI system will not only be able navigate the streets but can also tell a driver's emotional state based of social cues and will ask the driver to pull over if it feels like driver is distracted or incapable of handling the vehicle.
