Telecom providers have aggressively started rolling out 4G connectivity in India. Airtel has been in the lead by offering the connectivity is 296 locations! For the uninitiated, 4G is the fourth generation of mobile technology that offers high speed internet. To set the context, the speed on a 4G network is generally 5-7 times that of a 3G connection from the same provider. The need for 4G arises from data intensive usage like video streaming, navigation and social networking sites. In India, Telecom operators are offering 4G services on Band 40 (2300MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz). Phones supporting these two bands will be able to access the high speed network easily.

If you are a data heavy user who is looking out for a 4G smartphone, here are 5 phones that won’t be heavy on the pocket.

Redmi 2 Prime
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is among the cheapest entry level smartphones currently on sale in the country. The Redmi 2 Prime is a slightly improved version of the Redmi 2 and comes with welcome upgrades like 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM. The Prime gets a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 Quad Core processor and is capable of providing decent performance for the price. The Redmi 2 Prime supports both the 4G bands i.e. Band (3,40) making it an easy pick for an entry level 4G phone. The Prime is a Dual SIM device and offers 4G support on both the SIMs.

Motorola Moto E 2nd Gen
The Moto E 2nd Gen is another smartphone in the same price band like the Redmi 2 Prime. The Moto E comes in 3G and 4G variants and both the phones have different hardware. The Moto E 2nd Gen 4G gets a 1.2GHz Quad Core Processor and 1GB of RAM. The device runs on Android Lollipop out of the box and offers a stock Android experience. Motorola had initially launched the phone for Rs 7,999 but to fight the competition off the price was dropped and now stays at Rs 6,999. Just like the Redmi 2 Prime the Moto E supports both the 4G bands. It is a Dual SIM device but supports 4G only on one SIM while the other is restricted to 2G.

Yu Yureka Plus
The Yureka was a hot seller at the time of launch, it seemed to be the perfect smartphone with the 720p display being the only limiting factor. It was updated with a 1080p (FullHD) display making it incredible value for money. The Yureka Plus is bigger than the phones previously discussed sporting a 5.5 inch display. It gets a beefy 1.5GHz Octa Core processor (Snapdragon 615) and 2GB of RAM. The phone runs on CyanogenMod 12, an operating system derived from Android. The Yureka Plus is a Dual SIM device but offers 4G support only on one SIM. The other SIM is restricted to 3G. The phone is only available exclusively on Amazon and one needs to register before the sale to be eligible for one. The phone is priced at Rs. 9,999 and offers really good hardware for the price.

Lenovo A7000
Lenovo has launched a bunch of phones in the sub 10k bracket. These phones have managed to move the market with the hardware they offered. The phones were the Lenovo A6000, Lenovo A6000 Plus and the Lenovo A7000. All these phones qualify as good phones when on a budget. The Lenovo A7000 would be my pick because it offers an Octa Core Chipset and has 2GB of RAM. The device sports a 5.5 inch display with HD resolution and has 8GB of internal memory. The A7000 is a Dual SIM device and supports both the prevalent 4G bands in India. The SIM 1 supports 4G/3G/2G while the second SIM slot is restricted to 2G use only. This is the first device in the world to get Dolby ATMOS and music lovers would enjoy the music output this phone puts out.

Lenovo K3 Note
The Lenovo K3 Note is yet another smartphone from the manufacturer that sits in the same price range but has a different set of features. The device has a 5.5 inch display and a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Under the 10k price range the Lenovo K3 Note and the Yu Yureka Plus are the only phones to sport a 1080p display. The phone has a 1.7GHz Octa Core Processor and 2GB of RAM onboard. In terms of software, the device runs Vibe UI 2.0 on top of Android Lollipop. It is a Dual SIM smartphone and supports both bands on both SIM slots making it a brilliant pick under Rs. 10,000.These are the best 4G smartphones available in the country today on a budget. Most of these phones are online exclusive and you should be able to get your hands on them fairly easily.
