A 29-year-old major and a jawan were killed along with three terrorists in a two-day encounter as the army foiled an infiltration attempt in the border district of Kupwara in North Kashmir.

Major RV Ramani, who hailed from Ahmedabad, and soldier Jagtar Singh of the 23 Punjab regiment were killed when militants opened fire at an ambush party of the army at Gulab post near Jaba Top, close to the Line of Control. The army had a tip-off about a possible infiltration attempt.
