Thief’s carnama: 'Ab tak' 34

The crime branch of city police has arrested notorious four-wheeler thief Nilesh Joshi from Vishala Circle area. According to police, Joshi has confessed to have stolen as many as 34 vehicles from posh areas of the city in the last five years. Though the arrest was made on Saturday last, the police revealed it only on Friday.

Joshi usually stole bigger cars like Bolero, Scorpio, Qualis, and Indigo and sold them dirt cheap. He made close to Rs80 lakh in last couple of years by selling stolen vehicles. Interestingly, when Joshi was last arrested in 2003, he had confessed to stealing 47 vehicles.

The police said the sharp-minded thief had admitted stealing four cars from Ghatlodia, four from Satellite, three from Sola and Navrangpura each, two from Naranpura, one from Madhavpura and Ellisbridge each. The police seized a Bolero from Joshi at the time of his arrest, which he had stolen from Transport Nagar in Gandhidham three weeks back. He was wanted by police in the city’s several police stations.

Joshi had entered the crime world in 2001. He was a resident of Balwa village in Gandhinagar district. He was attracted by the glitter of Ahmedabad city and took to short-cuts for making money. 

He was first arrested in 2003 under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act and sent to Vadodara jail for one year.
