With intelligence inputs suggesting that three suspected terrorists may have sneaked into the state capital, Andhra Pradesh Home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy assured people on Friday that the police are fully equipped to deal with any emergency, saying there was no need to panic.
The home minister reviewed the situation with city Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao here today. She said every step was being taken to ensure safety and security of people.
The Police Commissioner informed the Home minister that intensive checks were being carried out in every nook and corner of the city and peripheral areas to see that no suspicious elements escape the police dragnet.
He also said security was stepped up at the state assembly, public places and at the residences of ministers, MLAs and other VIPs here.
A strict surveillance was also being maintained at these places, Prasada Rao told Sabita Reddy during the meeting.
The Home minister also reviewed the security measures in other major cities and towns in the state.
Police sources said security was tightened in and around the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Nellore district.
Security was also beefed up in Visakhapatnam and Vijaywada.
A red alert was also sounded in temple town Tirpuati and Tirumala hills, the abode of Lord Venkateshwara.
Tight security was also put in place at Chilukur Balaji temple (also known as Visa Lord) on the outskirts of the city.
Bomb disposal and dog squads have been pressed into service in Tirupati to conduct extensive searches.
A thorough checking of vehicles and pilgrims was being undertaken at Alipiri, the entry point of Tirumala Hills, police sources added.
