Even as the Crime Branch police of Ahmedabad on Tuesday said that they had arrested two persons in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 11-year-old boy Gaurav that took place two weeks back, the family of the boy is not sure if he is alive. One of the two arrested, incidentally, is a relative of the victim.

As the police version goes, Gaurav (nickname Gopi), a resident of Chitrakut row house in Chandlodia, had been kidnapped on May 14 and his body was found from under the Chandlodia bridge the next day. Gopi's family, however, could not recognise the body that still lies in the morgue.

Gopi was studying at Shakti Vidhyalaya, Chandlodia. His father, Narendra Patel, who works at Bharat Vijay Mill at Kalol, said  Gopi had gone to his aunt's place in the neighbourhood and never returned thereafter.

On May 15, the police found the body of a boy from under the Chandlodia bridge. They called Gopi's parents to identify the body, but they could not. Following this, the police sent the viscera from the body to FSL for establishing the identity of the body.
On May 21, Narendra got a call from a man who asked him to arrange Rs6 lakh if he wanted his son back.

Again on May 30, the same man called Narendra and asked him to pay the money to a man sitting in an Indica car at Sarkhej crossroads.

As Narendra's son-in-law Manoj was proceeding towards the spot with the money, he got a call near Karnavati Club that he should instead reach the Bakrol check-post and drop the money bag on a Luna moped without any number plate. Manoj went up to Bakrol check-post but could not see any such vehicle there so he came back home.
While the police await the result from the FSL, the family is not sure about the fate of Gopi.
