The Chhara leaders in Ahmedabad are alleged to have threatened Balwant Rathod, a victim of fraudster Ashok Jadeja alias Ashok Didawala, of dire consequences if he lodges a police complaint or contacted any mediapersons again.

Rathod, who is on a 72-hour hunger strike for speeding up investigations against Jadeja, has been threatened by some community leaders who don't want him to file a complaint with the CID. "I made it very clear to them that I'm determined to file a complaint, and will also motivate other victims to stand against the injustice without being afraid of any threats. I will continue with my demonstrations," Rathod told DNA.

Rathod is on a hunger strike along with his two daughters and a son. "My family has suffered a loss of Rs8 lakh because of this scam, while my sister, brother and other relatives lost about Rs1 crore," he said. While addressing his community members, Rathod urged the other victims of the scam to come forward and file a complaint against Jadeja.

"During a public meeting the agents and supporters of Jadeja said that anyone who dares to lodge a complaint will be beaten up by Jadeja's goons," said Rathod. Fearing a counter attack Rathod refused to disclose the names of any of the community leaders who threatened him.
