Allrounder Abdul Razzaq on Sunday claimed that he has been released by the Indian cricket League.
Following in the footsteps of Mohammad Yousuf, experienced allrounder Abdul Razzaq on Sunday claimed that he has been released by the Indian cricket League and is now available to play for Pakistan.
Razzaq confirmed that he was among the 50 overseas and Indian players released last week by the unofficial league. The ICL said some of these players had themselves asked to be released from their contracts. "I was among the players who had asked to be released and they have now ended my contracts without any loose ends," Razzaq said.
He said it was now up to the Pakistan Cricket Board to decide how to deal with the ICL players. "I am available and I have also asked the ICL to send me in writing that they have released me so that I can submit this to the board," he said.
Many countries including India and Pakistan have set May 31 deadline for the rebel players to resign from the unofficial league and return to national fold after serving a
cooling period or paying some penalties. The PCB has indicated it would consider the players for national selection after imposing some fines.
Senior batsman Yousuf also last week met with PCB officials in Lahore and submitted a copy of the termination letter of his ICL contract. Altogether 19 Pakistani players are signed up with the ICL, nearly half of whom had or could have represented Pakistan, including Yousuf and Razzaq.
The move by various national boards to offer amnesty to the ICL players was prompted by the Indian cricket board's (BCCI) offer to the Indian players in April. Since then, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South African cricket boards have followed the path and offered amnesty to their rebel players.
