Tom Hanks helped a woman reach the venue of her wedding in time. The incident remained a secret until Angels & Demons opened in cinemas worldwide.
American actor Tom Hanks showed his chivalrous side when he halted the production of his film, and rushed to the aid of an Australian bride who got caught in a traffic jam.
Hanks (52) was filming
Angels & Demons in Rome when he noticed that Natalia Dearnley, 28, got stuck on the way to her wedding ceremony inside the city’s Pantheon.
Noticing that the roads were clogged with film production vehicles and tourists, and that Dearnley’s limousine could not reach the steps of the temple, the actor yelled out “cut”, to stop filming, and went to her aid.
“As we were trying to get through, Tom came over and asked if he could escort me to my wedding,” London’s Telegraph quoted Dearnley, a sales and marketing manager who now lives in London, as telling Sydney’s
Daily Telegraph.
“I couldn’t believe it. He stopped filming to help me. I’ve never met a celebrity before. We went straight for the A-list. They were all cheering, it was amazing. Dad invited Tom to stay for the wedding, but he said he had a movie to make,” she said.
Hanks used his large security detail to usher the bride through the crowd, into the Pantheon, where her groom was waiting.
After the ceremony, Hanks and film director Ron Howard congratulated the newlyweds and posed for photographs.
“Her limo couldn’t deliver her to the door, so I offered her my arm so she could get hitched,” Hanks revealed later.
Hanks invited the pair to the world premiere of the film in Rome, which they attended earlier this month.
The incident last June remained a secret until
Angels & Demons opened in cinemas worldwide.
