A conductor of a blueline bus was shot dead by unidentified men in west Delhi on Tuesday morning with police suspecting family rivalry to be the motive behind the crime.

The incident took place in Khera More in Najafgarh of south-west Delhi around 6 a.m.

Pavan, a resident of Gopal Nagar, was shot at by the attackers as soon as he alighted from a DTC bus and started walking towards a stationary blueline bus plying between Safdarjung and Najafgarh, a senior police officer said.

After being shot in his back, the victim tried to run away from the spot but was caught by the assailants after a chase, the officer said.

Then they shot Pavan on his head point blank, he added. However, the killers managed to escape from the scene.

Police suspect that family rivalry could be the reason behind Pavan's murder.

According to the officer, Pavan's brother Anil had allegedly murdered one Ashok last month following a dispute over purchase of a car.

"We are probing whether Ashok's family members are any way  involved in the murder," he said.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on to trace the absconding killers.
