A man who had gone to see his ailing sister staying in an 11-storeyed building at Agripada on Tuesday evening was caught between the elevator doors and died from his injuries in Nair Hospital the same night.

The deceased, identified as Mohammed Ismail Yusuf Qureshi, 53, was a labourer who resided in a slum colony at Saki Naka. Qureshi sustained severe head injuries and both his legs were crushed in the elevator at Ahmed Palace (pictured above) after he was caught between the elevator doors. Since there was a technical snag with the elevator, the doors did not open and Qureshi was crushed between them.

Qureshi was rushed to Nair Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 10.30 pm the same day. A sub-inspector at the Agripada police station said investigations are on and if anyone is found guilty of negligence, he would be punished.
The building watchman and residents rushed to the elevator and prised the doors open. They then rushed Qureshi to Nair Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Ahmed Palace was constructed recently under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority scheme.
