Bomb hoax disrupts exams in city college

A bomb threat that finally proved to be a hoax kept city police on its toes with frantic
searches till late last night.

It all started with a fake letter wrapped in a brown cover that was dropped on Tuesday in front of the cabin of the principal of the Fergusson college, one of the oldest
educational institutions in the city.

An office employee handed over the envelope to the principal R G Pardesi, who was aghast to read the contents of the letter that said "Bombs have been planted at the Fergusson and Wadia college and also in a famous Ganesh temple and would go off in the course of the day. Five gun-wielding men would then fire shots at random".

Police swung into action after the letter dated April 28 written in Hindi by one Mohammad T was handed over to them.

Bomb detection squads combed the entire area of the targets mentioned and concluded that it was a hoax.

The episode caused a temporary disruption in the examinations for B.A and B.Sc that were being conducted in the Fergusson college as panicky students came out of the halls.

A top police official said the letter appeared to be work of a mischief monger whose mother tounge could be Marathi.
