Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has apologised to Madonna after realising his spoof of her Malawian adoptions had offended the singer.

Madonna who was reportedly "shattered" when a Malawian court rejected her plea to adopt a second child from the African country, found the gimmick in Cohen's new film 'Bruno' insensitive, reported Daily Mirror online.

In the scene, Bruno pokes fun at Madonna's adoption of Malawi toddler David Banda. He collects an African baby out of luggage at an airport and then appears on US TV talk shows to defend the adoption.

"Angelina's got one, Madonna's got one, now Bruno's got one. I gave him a traditional African name OJ," says Cohen's character.

But after the comedian realised that the scene offended Madonna, who is also a friend of his, he quickly sent her a bouquet of flowers to apologise.

"Sacha is always out to make great comedy, and if he upsets people along the way, so be it. But when word reached him that Madonna thought his sketch was insensitive, he sent her a bouquet of flowers to say, 'No hard feelings'," a source close to Cohen told the newspaper.
