Bust of Nehru falls off pedestal at India Place in London

The bust of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has fallen off its pedestal at India Place near the Indian High Commission here and British police have launched a probe into it amid reports that Sri Lankan Tamil protesters could be behind the incident.
    
However, High Commission sources have not blamed anybody for the incident which took place two days back.
   
The 45-kilogram metal bust of India's first prime minister is not damaged and currently it is in the safe custody of the India House, High Commission sources said on Friday.
    
The statue, a public monument, was unveiled in the 1990s by the then High Commissioner of India LM Singhvi and the Mayor of London.

The pedestal, made of stone, is now covered by a tarpaulin.
    
Nobody has claimed responsibility for pushing the bust from the pedestal, the sources said, amid reports that Sri Lankan Tamil protesters could be behind the incident.

On April 7, Tamil protesters had clashed with police after they laid a siege of the British Parliament, demanding international action to stop "genocide" by Sri Lankan forces in the island's north.
