John Buchanan might have ruffled quite a few feathers with his four-captain theory and it may also have eventually resulted in Kolkata Knight Riders’ owner Shah Rukh Khan having a dig at former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar, but Aussie great Glenn McGrath is not taking his former coach’s comments too seriously.

“I think John is just testing the waters by announcing his new theory. He has got reactions from the media and other quarters like he expected it to. That is typical of John Buchanan,” said McGrath, who joined the Delhi Daredevils here on Monday in preparation for the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held in South Africa.

“I think what he probably meant, or what is a more reasonable theory is of involving other players in strategies. A good captain is one who uses the experience of senior players and also involves the juniors while taking decisions,” said the 39-year-old.

McGrath, who retired last year to end a glorious 14-year international career with 563 Test wickets and 381 One Day International (ODI) scalps, was hoping to put his experience to good use this IPL season. “The pitches in South Africa will be bouncier and quicker, similar to those back in Australia. So, I plan to supervise our bowling attack and hope we make it to the final and win it,” he said.
