The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday alleged that the CBI was "misused" by the Congress in giving a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case and said the party-backed NDA would reinvestigate the case, if voted to power.

"Influence of Centre on CBI could be gauged from the fact that although the investigating agency submitted a sealed report in the court, the content regarding the proposed clean chit to Tytler was leaked to the media," SAD chief Sukhbir Badal said here.

"It is not CBI's clean chit to Tytler, but a clean chit by Congress, which itself is responsible as main conspirator for anti-Sikh riots and used Tytler as a hit man for the purpose," the deputy chief minister said reacting to CBI filing cancellation report in a Delhi Court on Thursday.

"If NDA is voted to power, it will reopen and reinvestigate the case to take it to its logical conclusion."

Criticising prime minister Manmohan Singh for "maintaining silence" on the development, Sukhbir said, "it was ironical that when the anti-Sikh riots took place, a Sikh (Giani Zail Singh) was president and now when clean chit was being given to the main accused (Tytler), a Sikh (Manmohan Singh) is prime minister.
