The Amraiwadi police have arrested a police constable for raping a girl for more than five years. The constable, Rajendra Raghuvirsinh Gohil, is working at Botad police station in Bhavnagar district.

“On Tuesday, Gohil surrendered before Amraiwadi police,” second PI BL Rathod said adding the accused had been sent to judicial custody.

According to police, Khushbu (name changed), daughter of a retired police inspector at Amraiwadi police station, had lodged a case against Gohil on February 9, accusing him of raping her several times with a promise to marry her.

Earlier, the Amraiwadi police had sent a team to Botad to investigate the case.

Gohil was the victim’s neighbour when her father was posted as PI at Amraiwadi police station in 2002. Sources alleged that Gohil had an intimate relationship with the victim.

Their affair could not be detected by the victim’s family as her father was transfer from Ahmedabad. The victim alleged that Gohil kept assuring her after her father’s death that he would marry her.

According to the victim, Gohil took her to various places, including Bhavnagar and Rajkot, and made physical relationship with her.

However, Gohil decided to keep a distance from her as soon as he got engaged to a Bhavnagar girl in February. He refused to continue the relationship and told her in clear terms that he would not marry her, Khushbu said. When she failed to convince Gohil, Khushbu lodged against the cop, which resulted in Gohil’s arrest on Wednesday.
