Jennifer Lopez tries to turn back time with teen outfit

Singer Jennifer Lopez is known for her impeccable taste in fashion but the 39-year-old committed a rare faux pas when she turned up at a promotional event in Japan wearing clothes better suited to a teenager.

The singer, who caused a stir when she took off her wedding ring for not matching with her outfit, was dressed in a black baggy top, black leggings and ill-fitting white high heels at a event to promote a line of handbags in Tokyo.

The Latina star, who is in good shape a year after giving birth to twins last year, made a failed attempt to look youthful in the casual outfit, the Daily Mail reported.

Lopez had dyed her hair to a light shade of brown to and added a fringe to complement the look.

The new look was in complete contrast to the formal dresses that the singer has been sporting on the red carpet in recent months.

She also took time to give some fashion tips to her Japanese fans, telling them to "be true to themselves".

Jennifer is just the latest celebrity face to endorse the Samantha Thavasa label.

Previous stars to appear in Thavasa ads include Victoria Beckham and famous siblings Penelope and Monica Cruz, Beyonce and Solange Knowles and Paris and Nicky Hilton.
