Just a few days after the Congress party gave a go ahead to Jagdish Tytler to fight election from a Delhi seat, there is more good news for the alleged architect of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

In a closed report filed before a local court in the capital on Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has given a clean chit to Tytler in the anti-Sikh riot case. Sources in the agency revealed that they have not found any fresh evidence in the case to carry out investigations against Tytler.

The agency had come under extreme criticism in December 2007 after the sleuths had given a clean chit to Tytler. The CBI had then said that they were unable to carry out the investigations because they didn’t find any evidence to link Tytler with the killing of Sikhs in 1984.

“I have always said that this was a conspiracy to malign my image. I have always served the country and would continue to do so. Every time there is an election coming up, the case is purposely brought up to target me but I have nothing against anyone. The CBI had earlier conducted investigations during the term of BJP and gave me a clean chit and this only means that I was not involved in any such incident and that the investigators were not influenced by anyone,” said Jagdish Tytler, the veteran Congress from Delhi.

However, the court had directed the CBI to re-investigate the anti-Sikh riots case against Tytler and record statement of California based Jasbir Singh, who had claimed to have seen Tytler instigate the mob. Singh had also alleged that Tytler had threatened him not to take a stand against him.

The CBI had sent a team to California to record the statement of Jasbir Singh and present the findings before the court. Jasbir Singh is not the only eyewitness who had alleged that Tytler was involved. The sleuths have recorded statements of at least ten other people but they could not find any evidence to corroborate the charges.
“I have also come to know that the CBI has given a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler. Although I am shocked yet this has not come as a surprise. It is a Congress government in the country and it is obvious that they would have influenced the investigators to give a clean chit to him. My client would have come personally to give his statement in court but we fear that he might have been killed,” said HS Phulka, the counsel of Jasbir Singh.
