Dubai court appoints first female judge

The Judiciary has taken a step forward as the courts here got its first female judge.

Ebtisam Ali Rashid Al Bedwawi has taken oath of office as the first female judge to work in Dubai courts.

Twenty-seven-year-old Al Bedwawi, who holds a bachelor's degree in Sharia and law from UAE University, was sworn in on Thursday along with four other judges. 

Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed Ibtisam Badwawi as the first national judge in Dubai courts and praised her sound career choice.

He said that such step would pave the way for female graduates to join the judiciary.

He congratulated the new judges and asked them to discharge their responsibilities in administering justice without fear or favour and to strictly adhere to standards of fairness and neutrality.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by justice minister HE Dr Hadef bin Jawan Al Dhaheri and other officials.
