From a top cop to a brand ambassador — Kiran Bedi has come a long way.

The supercop is in talks with a few companies and may soon be seen as a brand ambassador for a firm dealing in security products. But there is a rider. “There should be a reason why I endorse a brand. It should be connected to the causes I support,” Bedi told DNA in Kolkata.

Bedi works for drug rehabilitation, women’s empowerment and prison reforms through her NGOs Navjyoti and India Vision Foundation.

She is already the brand ambassador for No Marks, a range of cosmetics manufactured by the Ozone Group.

The country’s first woman IPS officer, Bedi said she was chosen by No Marks not because of her complexion but because of the “glow within”. Re1 from the sale of every tube of No Marks will go
towards Navjyoti and India Vision Foundation.

Bedi is also finishing her autobiography, I Dare, which will be ready for release in May. “In the updated version I have explained why I left the service two years before my retirement was due,” Bedi said, flashing her trademark smile.

Of all the causes she supports, education for the girl child is closest to her heart. “It’s more important to be productive in society — in the professional sense,” she said.

Navjyoti has till now treated 12,000 drug addicts. It is on a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. India Vision Foundation strives for prison reforms, crime prevention, education and rural development.
