A fire broke out at the under construction Sardar Patel International Airport on Tuesday, due to which a flight from here got delayed.

"Fire broke out accidentally at the under construction International airport site today when some welding work was being carried out," Airport director BP Bhagat said.

"The stand by fire tenders with airport authority were rushed to the spot, and few from civil also joined in later as we got control over fire within 20-25 minutes" Bhagat said.

"Ahmedabad Municipal corporation fire brigade rushed two fire tenders to the spot after the airport authority reported the incident of fire," fire brigade officials said.

Mumbai bound Spice Jet flight 804 got delayed by over 50 minutes due to the fire, Bhagat said. However, no casualty has been reported, but the damage due to the incident could not be ascertained, officials said. 

"The airport staff is preparing a consolidated report of the incident and is scheduled to send it to its New Delhi headquarters," airport officials said.
