For Mumbaikars, it was déjà vu as they watched visuals of gunmen attacking the convoy of the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan, on Tuesday morning.
The Lankan team, which was in Pakistan for a Test series, was on its way to the Gaddafi stadium from a hotel.

At least 12 heavily-armed youngsters, with haversacks slung over their shoulders and carrying Kalashnikov rifles, fired at the convoy indiscriminately, bringing back memories of the terror attacks in Mumbai last November.

The Pakistani government suspects that the people who masterminded the Mumbai carnage are behind the Lahore attack, too. In a statement, it said that the manner of the attack seemed similar to the Mumbai attacks.

A hint to the involvement of the same group behind the two attacks came from the weapons recovered in Lahore. “The hand-grenades and the revolvers are of the same make as those used in Mumbai,” a Pakistani official told a TV news channel.

Even Indian intelligence agencies monitoring the developments in Pakistan said prima facie it seems that the Lahore and Mumbai terrorists were part of the same group.

“Their body language, the audacious manner in which they opened fire, and the weapons they used — it looks like they were all part of the same training programme,” a senior central intelligence agency official said, not wanting to be named.

According to a preliminary report of the Pakistani agencies, it seems the attackers were from the Murdike camp of the LeT, the one where the Mumbai attackers were also trained.

Meanwhile in the city, the Mumbai police and the Fire Brigade on Tuesday joined hands with Eureka Forbes to start a year-long door-to-door initiative to spread awareness about how alertness can help in situations like the Mumbai attacks.

‘This is Mumbai No 2 for us’
A visiting Pakistani peace delegation on Tuesday condemned the Lahore attack and branded the incident as “Mumbai No 2 with the same people behind it”

“This was Mumbai No 2 for us. It is the same people. It is the same style. They are sending a very, very strong message that they will continue with this. It is very depressing,” Karamat Ali, a trade union leader from Karachi, who is heading the delegation, said

The 12-member delegation is touring India as part of a civil society initiative to promote regional peace and security in the wake of the Mumbai attacks

State to send cop teams to 6 nations
The state home department will send teams of top police officers to six countries for a comparative study of security measures and investigations done by security agencies after a terror attack. The teams, with about five officers each, will be sent to the UK, USA, Singapore, China, Thailand and France — countries that have either faced terror attacks or have expertise in handling terror

The names of the officers have not been finalised yet. The officials will study the security measures followed in the investigating terror attacks, home minister Jayant Patil said
