Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray called Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar “dhoka yantra” (dangerous instrument) for his unpredictable political moves.

But the just launched MNS website (www.manase.org ) heaps praise on Pawar and gives him as much prominence as it gives Bal Thackeray. The MNS website claims that Pawar’s qualities are “his ability to endure criticism and his far-sightedness”.

The website was launched by Raj Thackeray on Friday at Rang Sharda Hall in Bandra. During a conversation with reporters, Thackeray said, “No one can understand Pawar’s political moves. He speaks different things at different places. He is not a hoka yantra (navigation instrument), but a dhoka yantra.”

The MNS website has an article on Pawar, crediting him as a politician who has influenced Maharashtra.

“From time to time, he (Pawar) has graduated people, based on their potential and propensity, into the national league. Able administration, contact with the common man, flair for picking leaders among men, direct interaction with the workforce are the qualities that characterise his political persona,” the article states.

Raj said he is determined to introduce Maharashtra’s history and culture through the MNS website. “I will be able to reach all of you and ensure that you get the right information. I have made available Maharashtra’s history and culture. Anybody who wants to know about Maharashtra will get every pie of the state on the website,” he said.

He declared that MNS will contest the Lok Sabha elections without allying with other parties. He dismissed reports of a possible Shiv Sena-NCP alliance as speculation — a tactic by both parties to apply pressure on current allies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.

He said it was unlikely that Sena and BJP will break up. “It is true that one gets bored due to someone’s long company but it does not mean that they will break up,” he said.

Raj said his party will field only those candidates who will “take care of Maharashtra’s self-respect”, taking a dig at the Sena. When asked about Sanjay Dutt, a resident of Mumbai, contesting the elections from Lucknow, he replied, “What can I say about these people.”
