Faced with the shortage of hotel accommodation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games tourists, the government on Thursday said it was exploring options including using guest houses and hostels of educational institutes in Delhi.

Sports minister MS Gill said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the government would also take help from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to get an additional 14,500 rooms.

"Around 12,400 rooms are expected to be available for the visitors during the Games. Efforts are being made to get an additional 14,500 rooms through various agencies including governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

"An additional 3000 rooms are likely to be made available under the Bed and Breakfast Scheme. For further augmenting the availability, use of licensed guest houses in Delhi, hostels of educational institutes and furnished flats of Delhi Development Authority are also being explored," he said.

On another question on how much money has been allocated for the Games, Gill said, "For construction/upgradation of sports infrastructure; conduct of the Games; security arrangements; civic infrastructure; preparation of teams; host broadcaster, international broadcasting centre; refurbishment of historical monuments and other related matters the
government has accorded Rs 5645 crores so far."
