War against fakes

Fake art works are one of the biggest problems facing the art world right now. Experts believe that documentation of art works and maintaining a record of art works is the best way to tackle the issue. Hence, SH Raza’s works are in the process of being documented and we hear that even MF Husain might be getting his works systematically recorded in a book.

 “We are creating a catalogue resone for SH Raza. We have tried to get as many photographs of Raza’s works that he has created till date from his various collectors. And the artist authenticated each one of them personally,” says Dinesh Vazirani of Saffronart.
“We got in touch with many collectors across the world who have Raza’s works, and sent them mails to send us the images of the works they have. Once the works were authenticated by Raza, we then sent a photographer to take better pictures of the works. Our photographers went all the way to New York, Hong Kong and many places in India. Since the last six months we have documented about 2,000 works and we will be documenting another 2,000 within the next few months.”

All these works will be published in a book that can be bought by collectors and buyers for their reference. “When your works are documented, there is some record about which of your works is with whom. So when a fake floats in the market, it is easier to catch,” confirms Dinesh, adding that they are also planning to upload this documentation on their website.
