Five foreign governments whose nationals were killed in the Mumbai carnage have filed cases against Mohammed Ajmal Amir, the lone terrorist captured alive on 26/11, in their respective countries.

These countries — the US, Singapore, Japan, Italy and France, may even seek his extradition, a senior crime branch official told DNA on Tuesday.

“Delegations from almost all these [five nations] have come to Mumbai for gathering information about 26/11. They have registered cases against Ajmal and the nine other [dead] terrorists,” the official said.

Twenty-six foreigners from 15 countries had died on 26/11. The other countries who lost their nationals are Canada, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, Israel, Mexico, Netherlands, Thailand, United Kingdom and Mauritius.

The officer said the remaining 10 countries might also ask for Ajmal’s extradition for a trial.

There were also fears that such attacks could occur anywhere, he said.
