4 oil workers in Assam abducted

Four employees of Indian Oiltanking were abducted by suspected Dimasa youths (an ethnic group) in Assam’s North Cachar Hills on Friday.

Four employees of Indian Oiltanking were abducted by suspected Dimasa youths (an ethnic group) in Assam’s North Cachar Hills on Friday.

The employees were conducting a survey between Manza 1 and Manza 2 under the Lang Ting police station limits when they were abducted on Saturday at gunpoint.
They have been identified as Chandrak, 25, Suresh, 22 (both from Chennai), Nitish Kumar, 25, from Delhi, and Mohinder, 24, from Kanpur.

“We still don’t have a clear picture of the terror links of the abducters,” a senior police officer from the NC Hills told DNA on telephone. “Our officers have gone to the spot and we are awaiting further information.”

The officer said the police had no idea why the workers had been abducted. “We ju
st got a message on our wireless about the abduction. We are awaiting details,” he said.

A senior police officer in Chennai confirmed the news. “We are awaiting specific information,” he said.

Indian Oiltanking, founded in 1997, is a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation and the Hamburg-hea dquartered Oiltanking GmbH.

There was no official information from either Indian Oiltanking or the parent company IOC. While the numbers of Indian Oiltanking in New Mumbai were continuously busy, there was no response from IOC’s telephone lines in Chennai and at the corporate communications office in Mumbai.
