London Book Fair calling Nashik man

Nashik based publisher Nishad Deshmukh has been selected as the Indian finalist for International Young Publishing Entrepreneur 2009 Award, instituted by the British Council to promote creative industries.

A graduate from Pune University in pharmaceutical science, Nishad worked in marketing for a few years before becoming an entrepreneur. A first generation publisher and entrepreneur, Nishad’s quest to fulfill the demand of science reference books by Indian authors made him launch Career Publications in 2000.

Beginning single-handedly with a modest space of under 80 sq ft, today Career operates with 42 employees in a 2,700 sq ft office with branches in Pune and Delhi.
Nishad was applauded for his presentation at the national level and selected to represent India.

The jury panel consisted of Mandira Sen, Stree Publications; S Anand, Navayana Publishing; SK Ghai, Capexil and Debanjan Chakrabarti, head, Inter Cultural Dialogue, British Council, India. They said, “Nishad has identified a gap in the market, founded a company in Nashik which is now doing business with international players in the field. A thorough professional, he has the potential to lead an independent imprint focused on science, technology and medicine to emerge as a global force.”

“I am looking forward to the international level where I shall represent India. I will get a chance to present the Indian publishing scenario, its development and also my work,” said Nishad.
