Batting legend Javed Miandad on Wednesday resigned as director-general of the Pakistan Cricket Board in protest against the "limited responsibiblity" given to him by the board's top brass.
Miandad, a former Pakistan captain and coach, cited diagreement with the board on terms of his contract as prime reason for his resignation.
"I have taken this decision since I am not satisfied with the terms of the contract given to me, in particular my areas of responsibility which is limited.
"I have no hard feelings towards anyone but a cricketer of my stature cannot be happy with the responsibilities they are giving me," Miandad said.
Miandad's resignation comes less than 24 hours after PCB sacked captain Shoaib Malik from the post and appointed senior batsman Younis Khan in his place.
PCB had held emergency meetings with former and current players before removing Malik in the wake of the recent ODI series defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka.
Miandad, who has been the coach of the team thrice in the past, though admitted he had opposed the immediate removal of Malik as captain.
"I just felt the captain deserved better treatment because if team loses and batting fails, all players are responsible and even the coach who made tactical mistakes in the last two games.
"But the reason I resigned is that the authority and responsibilities promised to me are not part of the contract offered to me," he said.
Miandad was miffed with the PCB, which asked him to concentrate primarily on just domestic cricket.
"Tell me is Javed Miandad capable of looking after only domestic cricket. I wanted to do much more for upliftment of Pakistan cricket but I don't have powers. What is the use of continuing as DG cricket," he said.
Miandad denied he has resigned because the PCB Chairman had not given him the financial benefits he had demanded.
"Look, if it was about money I would not have worked two months without a contract or salary."
Miandad said he had informed PCB chairman Ejaz Butt about his decision.
"He didn't say much. He asked me to reconsider and then when I said this is not possible under the present contractual terms. He said 'it is your decision'," he said.
When Miandad was appointed DG cricket, Butt had issued a circular stating all cricket affairs will be under Miandad and selectors, coach and the captain will work in liaison with him.
"I don't understand why that circular was issued when my contract given to me yesterday says something else."
The former Test captain said he was simply asked to look after domestic cricket and the development of the game.
Miandad was chief organiser of the one-day internationals against Sri Lanka this month at Karachi but he was not included in the organising committee for the third match in Lahore.
Miandad then refused to go to Lahore game before the chairman appeased him and convinced him to attend the match.
