New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum failed to deliver but his team New South Wales managed to lift Australia's domestic Twenty20 title beating Victoria by five wickets in a thrilling final at the ANZ Stadium, here on Sunday.

McCullum, whose selection into the NSW squad created a stir, had to head back after edging Shane Harwood to the wicketkeeper Adam Crosthwaite on 10.

With scores tied and NSW needing one run off the final delivery, Ben Rohrer failed to get bat on ball but scampered through for a single as the Blues reached 167 for five in response to Victoria's 166 for four.

Victoria had won all three Twenty20 tournaments but missed out on a fourth successive crown.

NSW's Rohrer, who played a smashing unbeaten 44 from 20 deliveries, was was later adjudged Man-of-the-Match.

Needing 31 off the final three overs and then 10 off the last over for victory, Rohrer and Dominic Thornely (27 off 24 balls) got the task down to two runs off three balls before the latter was bowled out by Harwood.

That brought Daniel Smith to the crease and he managed to get a single to put Rohrer on strike.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Rob Quiney smashed 91 from 56 balls as Victoria reached 166.

Both sides have already qualified for the inaugural Champions League in India later this year, where they will compete for a USD 3 million winner's prize.
