The Crime Branch of the Mumbai police plans to seek custody of Zainuddin alias Abdul Sattar, an alleged key suspect in last year’s serial blasts in Surat, who was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday.
He is wanted by the police of several states, including Delhi, Karnataka and Kerala, said police. He was also allegedly involved in the 1993 Kerala blasts and twin blasts in Kozikode in 2006.
“During interrogation, it came to the fore that he was a member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) module in Southern India. We will seek his custody for further investigations, said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police, Crime Branch.
The police have learnt that the explosives used in the Surat blasts were sent from Hyderabad and were allegedly arranged by Sattar.
