Cong cites sacrifice to decide against rotational CMship

NEW DELHI: Having changed the nature of its political coexistence in Jammu and Kashmir by not insisting on rotational chief ministership with National Conference, Congress on Saturday justified its decision by taking the high moral ground of "sacrifice" to ensure stability in the troubled state.

"We wanted a stable government. We do not want any kind of uncertainity. Congress has always made a sacrifice" party's Media department chairman M Veerappa Moily told reporters in New Delhi when asked why the party decided against rotational chief ministership in a break from the previous coaliton model with PDP and allowing NC to have a six-year term.

Claiming that Congress has "a sense of sacrifice and renunciation", he said the party has always accomodated other political parties for "a larger cause".

In this regard, he recalled that the party was once instrumental in making Shiekh Abdullah the chief minister of J and K even when it was in power.
