"Dawood should be arrested by sheltering country"

BHUBANESWAR: As India seeks to lay its hand on the most wanted person linked to several terror attacks, the CBI on Friday said it was the responsibility of the country, where Dawood Ibrahim is taking shelter, to ensure his arrest.
    
"CBI's jurisdiction is confined to the geographical boundaries in India. Beyond that the country where he lives is responsible for further action against him," CBI director
Aswani Kumar told reporters here.

Asked whether he was indicating Pakistan, Kumar said it could be Pakistan or Dubai. "It is the responsibility of any country to facilitate his arrest," Kumar said.
    
Former CBI director and vice-president of Interpol, Uma Shankar Mishra who was also present at the media meet, said other countries should come forward to help arrest of India's most wanted criminal as part of their fight against terror.
    
"During my tenure in Interpol, a special red corner notice was issued in 2005 which included name of Dawood Ibrahim. But the countries where he was taking shelter did not help," Mishra said adding the special red corner notice was issued in view of the serious concern by the United Nations.

According to the notice, the government can seize the person's bank account and properties. But in case of Dawood no such action was taken by any country, he said.    On probe into Mumbai terror attack, Kumar said "a team of FBI had already visited Mumbai to assist the probe conducted by the Mumbai police."  Though other agencies would assist, it was Mumbai police which was in charge of the investigation, he said.
