MELBOURNE: Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar has been way too erratic for some time and needs a break, feels Australian spin legend Shane Warne.

"To me Aleem Dar makes too many mistakes and needs a break. Umpiring standards are pretty poor," Warne remarked in an online chat with fans conducted by The Herald Sun newspaper here.

Dar came in for heavy criticism for some of his decisions in Australia's ongoing Test series against South Africa.

He gave struggling Aussie opener Matthew Hayden out caught and bowled in first Test in Perth but TV replays showed that the ball had only bounced and thudded into the right-hander's pad.

The decision created quite a furore and Dar apologised to Hayden for the erroneous decision.

Dar also came up with a howler when he ruled Mike Hussey out in the second innings even though the short Morne Morkel delivery had rebounded off the batsman's helmet before Hashim Amla took the dolly.
