Impressing girls has always been tough for boys. But for nine-year-old Alec Greven, it seems like child’s play. No wonder his debut book How To Talk To Girls has been gaining so much popularity.

A standard IV student of Soaring Hawk Elementary School in Colorado, Alec’s writing has been inspired by his own observations in his school surroundings. He thinks the best way to start a conversation with a girl is to simply say ‘Hi’. And if she responds, then it’s a pretty good start!

In the book, Alec states, “A crush is like a love disease. It can drive you mad…Many boys get crushes on girls. But it can be very hard to get a girl to like you. Sometimes it takes years. Whatever happens, just don’t act desperate. Girls don’t like desperate boys.”

He adds, “If you do get a girl to like you, that is victory. Winning victory is a dream for most boys, but it is very rare.” Alec advises boys to go for regular girls. “About 73 per cent of regular girls ditch boys; 98 per cent of pretty girls ditch boys. Life is hard, move on,” he writes.

As a reality check on the new rules of kiddy dating, DNA spoke to some star kids to find out what’s their strategy to impress the gals…

Aayush Tandon, 10 years
“I try to treat girls like any of my other friends. If I like somebody, I’ll go and say hi to her. After that, it depends on her if she wants to talk. If I have to impress her, I’ll gift her chocolates and show some good manners.”

Rohanpreet Singh, 14 years
“I’d start by giving her a compliment about how beautiful she looks. I’ll make sure that I am well dressed at that time.”

Dhairya Sunecha, 10 years
“I believe in confronting the girl face to face. Once, I was absent in class and needed to catch up on class work. So I went up to a girl and asked for her phone number. She was sweet and gave it to me easily.”

Adritto Das, 10 years
“Things are easier with girls because they don’t do maara-maari like boys.”
