NEW DELHI: A super-specialty medical centre is coming up in New Delhi for visiting sports personalities for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

This Rs100-crore one-of-its-kind medical centre is being constructed with help from sportsmen who have represented India in international competitions.

Even Indian sportsmen who suffer injuries during fitness programmes can receive treatment here. “This facility is only for players. We are in touch with various doctors and former players to help us set up this facility,” a Delhi government source said.

The state government is taking help from Australia and England in setting up this medical centre, especially, how to procure necessary medical equipments. Commonwealth Games’ norms state that the hosting country should have a medical centre that would only cater to the needs of sportsmen and help them recover when they suffer injuries, a government official said.

Members from this medical centre would be present at various venues where tournaments are held.
